Obituary

DeLamar T.Bell, Jr., 82, in Tacoma, WA died peacefully with his family at his side, May 1, 2017 after a lengthy illness and loving care by Franke Toby Jones Health Center staff. He was born to the late Delamar Bell and Dorothea Bell on April 29, 1935 in New York City. He is survived by his wife Joan Bell; his sister Dorothea Boyst of Winston Salem, NC; his daughters, Teresa Bell, M.D. of Tacoma, WA; Edlyn Pursell of Houston, TX; Sheila Bell de Barahona of Coco Beach, CR; and six Grandchildren. He married Joan Cecilia Hopper in 1961, making their home of 54 years in Dallas and Richardson, TX.
Del's childhood was spent in Chatham, N.J. His undergraduate work was completed at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA where he became president of Honorary Societies of both Engineering and Physics. He earned MS and EE Degrees at Stanford University, Stanford, CA in 1965 in Electrical Engineering. His career at Texas Instruments, Inc. spanned 31 years where became a member of the Senior Technical Staff after serving and leading many projects. He was a member of IEEE, Tau Beta Pi, and the IOP (American Institute of Physics, founded in 1931, this honor was also bestowed upon his mother).
His character and good judgement, with a quick wit made him loved by All who knew him. He gave generously to favored organizations, Civic and National. Memorial Service plans will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers charitable donations can be made to The Nature Conservancy, Lehigh University, or the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
